SCB at 2010 Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo

SCB Design Principal Martin F. Wolf, FAIA will present at the 2010 Healthcare Facilities Symposium & Expo (HFSE) in Chicago. On September 15th, Wolf and his session colleagues will present on the design of the Vertical Healing Garden at the new Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital.

 

The Vertical Healing Garden is a 4,500 sq.ft. landscaped roof-top oasis at the 22 story, 1.25 million sq. ft. Children’s Hospital, currently under construction in Chicago. SCB, ZGF, and Anderson Mikos are collaborating on this new facility at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine.

 

At HFSE, Wolf will participate on a panel that includes Bruce Komiske, Chief of New Hospital Design and Construction for Children’s Memorial Hospital, Sue Ann Barton, Principal of ZGF, Mikyoung Kim, President of Mikyoung Kim Design, and Sean Bowker, Senior Project Manager at Mortenson/ Power J.V.

 

At the 1:30-3:00 pm session, Wolf and his colleagues will describe the process of incorporating this healing environment into the hospital design, as well as the clinical outcomes supported by healing gardens and the unique solutions to evidence-based design requirements. The panel will also address the collaboration required to bring such a program space into a new hospital design, the budget requirements, and the challenges these healing spaces present to the construction process.
