SCB and the City of Naperville win 2010 APA Award

August, 2010

SCB's Downtown Naperville Pedestrian Gap Analysis has been recognized by the American Planning Association, Illinois Chapter. The 2010 APA Best Practice award recognizes SCB and the City of Naperville's collaboration in developing strategies to improve the vitality of the pedestrian experience in the historic city center, as part of the Naperville downtown 2030 Plan.

Downtown Naperville is a compact area with diverse land uses and a large number of historical buildings. Using GIS technology and qualilty of life criteria, SCB developed a planning program that assessed the health of the built environment by identifying critical storefront and activity gaps within the downtown core. The planning team then developed a "Best Practice Matrix" to present strategies and recommendations that encourage development while enhancing the quality and character of the area.

The APA Best Practice Award acknowledges a specific planning program, process or tool that emphasizes results and demonstrates innovative and state-of-the art planning methods.
