SCB at Labs 21 2011
SCB Principal Mark J. Frisch, FAIA LEED AP BD+C and Kevin P. Rohane, AIA of Jacobs Consultancy Inc. co-presented at this year’s Labs 21 Annual Conference. Together, Frisch and Rohane offered a case study of their work with the National Institutes of Health Grant Process in the renovation of the College ofDentistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
The UIC College of Dentistry is housed in a five story, 308,000 square foot building of clinics,laboratories, lecture rooms, classrooms and office spaces. SCB and Jacobs Consultancy Inc. will update the laboratory/ research/ teaching facility that dates back to 1969. The design work involves demolition ofoutmoded labs and offices on the 1st, 4th, and 5th floors, and the creation of new spaces for a vivarium,modern laboratories, offices, equipment/ procedure/ and tissue culture rooms. The total project area is 25,000 gross square feet and is being designed to achieve LEED certification.
Frisch and Rohane presented their work in a plenary session on September 21, 2011. The three day conference co-sponsored by the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) was held inProvidence, Rhode Island.
