Octavio Gutierrez joined SCB’s San Francisco office in 2012 and specializes campus environments designs. His portfolio includes student life projects—ranging from first-year residence halls to upper-division and graduate student apartments—and learning environments, including academic offices, library, research facilities, and instructional space. Many of Octavio’s projects incorporate innovative active and passive energy reduction strategies, such as ventilated facades, daylighting, radiant floors, underfloor air delivery, and geothermal heating and cooling systems. Recent sustainability achievements include the first LEED Platinum certified Business School in the United States.
An active member of the firm’s Campus Environments Research & Development Committee, Octavio is committed to offering clients the most innovative and appropriate design and project delivery solutions. He is a leader in Building Information Modeling technologies, and a strong proponent of integrated design in early design phases. A member of the AIA and NCARB, Octavio is LEED certified. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
