DeVry University Chicago
Working with DeVry, Inc. and Jones Lang LaSalle, SCB developed a master plan for DeVry’s Chicago Campus along with a new 87,000 SF facility for the site. The master plan outlined a series of steps for DeVry that would allow the institution to expand its presence on the site.
At the same time, the plan enables DeVry to retain its ability to reconfigure the overall parcel to allow for a land sale of a portion or portions of the site if so desired. SCB developed a plan that maximizes the currents site’s assets and reduces its liabilities through the use of these elements. The new building links to the existing Teaching and Education Center (TEC) through an enclosed multi-purpose commons. The design team sought to create a space for the university’s students (many of whom are commuters) where they could meet, collaborate, and connect with fellow students and educators. SCB used a variety of scales and textures to create a comfortable environment designed to be a central gathering space. The LEED Silver certified building features daylighting, a highly efficient skin, and economical and efficient building systems and controls.
