Working closely with Heinz and the SLAC team—which includes laser and fire safety officials, representatives from SLAC’s Environmental, Safety & Health department, and facilities management—the highly collaborative design process focused on ensuring optimal working conditions for the research team. SCB’s approach resulted in a highly intuitive scheme that responds to user behavior and needs while also taking into account technical equipment requirements as well as necessary ventilation and filtration systems to develop a functional, efficient, safe laboratory environment. Due to the project’s accelerated timeline, early team integration and communication between the architects, sub-consultants and client was crucial to completing the project’s design.
