A seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience as an architect, Clara’s planning, management and technical design expertise is backed by her robust professional history in Chicago and an expansive project history across the country.

Focusing on mixed-use, high-rise and institutional developments, Clara oversees all aspects of the design and construction phases of projects ranging in size and complexity. Her recent projects include 1911 Walnut Street—a 50-story, mixed-use development on Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, PA., Northshore—a 27-story mixed-use residential development in Houston, TX., The Summit—a 24-story, mixed-use student residence at Drexel University, a LEED Gold certified student residence at Case Western Reserve University, and the multiphase Sports and Recreation Complex at Loyola University Chicago.

Starting at SCB as a Project Architect in 2006, Clara was soon promoted to Associate in 2007, and then again to Associate Principal in 2010.

Clara expressed her enthusiasm about this latest promotion, sharing “SCB is a dynamic firm with great people and talent. In one generation of leadership the firm has gone from a locally focused firm to a sizable, nationally recognized firm with truly amazing commissions due to the talent and rigor we bring to our clients. I am excited to be part of a new generation of leadership and will be continuing to build on our long-established strengths to further expand our regional, national and practice-sector reach.”

SCB Chairman John Lahey offered his congratulations and strong support of Clara’s promotion:

“Clara’s decade of service to SCB has brought enormous success to the company. Her strong capabilities to navigate complex projects, lead large-scale teams, and her unfailing commitment to our clients has truly strengthened the firm. I am proud to call her a colleague and now, a partner.”

Colombian-born and raised, Clara earned both her Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from Tulane University in New Orleans. In addition to being a member of the American Institute of Architects, Clara is active in the Urban Land Institute (ULI), participating on its Mixed-Use local Product Council, she is a presiding member of the Wilmette Historic Preservation Board, and serves on the New Trier School Board Caucus. Prior to her joining SCB, Clara has worked with Landon Architects, Nagle Hartray Architects, and Lucien Lagrange Architects.

At the core of Clara’s efforts is a desire to develop and maintain a creative, collaborative, and energetic environment that consistently delivers excellence. Now, as Principal, Clara will inform the firm’s vision and strategy for ongoing success through the relationships she heralds, projects she leads, and the studio she directs. As a public face of SCB, Clara will continue to identify market trends and opportunities, and is actively engaged in business development pursuits in both the local and national markets she serves.
