What initially attracted you to study design or pursue a career in design?

I’m always a little envious of the people who knew from a young age they’d be architects. I took a roundabout way to get here, but I can’t see myself doing anything else. There is something deeply satisfying about working in a profession that creates something tangible. Being able to point at a building and know that you played a part in its creation is very fulfilling.

What is the best professional advice you have ever received?

There are no bad ideas. (And trust me, I’ve put this one to the test)

What initially attracted you to study design or pursue a career in design?

I grew up around a very creative group of individuals. I had always practiced art and image-making, and I knew I wanted to pursue something visual. I became obsessed with typefaces, grids, layout, and how to convey information graphically. I was also inspired by the tangible and curation of designed experiences. I knew studying graphic design would lead me in an exciting direction.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Good design, to a degree, is subjective. When you work within this field, there often is no correct answer.  Thus, when you design something, you’re putting yourself out there. It can be intimidating to open yourself up like that to co-workers, clients, and eventually the public. So when we find that successful design and people respond positively, it’s extremely thrilling while also very affirming.
