How long have you been at SCB?
1 year.
How did you end up at SCB?
Ironically, a recruiter approached me about a job opportunity while I wasn’t looking for work. When I browsed the website, I was captivated by the variety of projects available. As someone who has always been interested in the residential sector, moving to SCB provided me with the opportunity to gain more knowledge about large, complex residential projects.
What initially attracted you to study design or pursue a career in design?
Back in Ecuador, I took a drafting class during my senior year of high school. I designed plans, elevations, and perspectives for a house. It was so enjoyable that my interest in architecture overtook my initial interest in engineering.
What is the best thing about working at SCB?
It is a pleasure to work at SCB because it provides me with the resources and the freedom to explore ideas and come up with solutions on my own. The resources are the best I have seen in my professional career. Any questions I have, I have the option of finding the answers on our internal website or ask someone who has tons of experience in the field.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Even though it is a small part of my responsibilities, I lose track of time when I start drafting and thinking about details. It is an exciting part of the design process that I always look forward to. I believe that becoming a good architect does not just involve creating perfect designs – it’s also knowing how building elements go together and getting the building built.
