Gary Kohn is the Chief Operating Officer of SCB, overseeing firm-wide corporate operations and management functions. He provides leadership and direction on the firm’s financial management, project delivery, and operational processes.
Gary also serves as a Managing Principal on many of the firm’s projects. In this role, his direct project responsibilities include team organization and assembly, contract review and fee negotiation, and overall project delivery strategy and execution. His counsel and organizational expertise is instrumental at the beginning of projects, especially those with complex team structures and challenging entitlements or approvals processes. In his more than 30 years of practice, he has supervised teams for numerous large-scale residential, hospitality, commercial office, and adaptive reuse projects nationwide. Recent projects include Loews Hotel and North Water Apartments in Chicago, Illinois; The Bristol, luxury condominium in West Palm Beach, Florida; 505, residential tower in Nashville, Tennessee; and the Morris Inn at the University of Notre Dame.
Prior to joining SCB, Gary worked with SOM and Lucien Lagrange Architects in Chicago. He received his Bachelor and Master of Architecture degrees from the University of Nebraska and holds active licenses in 23 states. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the AIA Large Firm Roundtable, the Chicago Committee on High-rise Buildings, the Executive Club of Chicago, and serves on the board for Easterseals of Metropolitan Chicago.
