The new complex was designed in the collegiate gothic architectural tradition that defines the University’s iconic campus. “The Gug” houses the football practice-week locker rooms, coaches’ offices, and meeting rooms in addition to enhanced sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and weight room equipment areas for all 800 Notre Dame student athletes. The ground floor features the 25,000 SF Haggar Fitness Center with the latest state-of-the-art strength, conditioning, and weight room equipment that all student athletes can use on a daily basis. Also on the ground floor is the 8,300 SF Loftus Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, which serves all student athletes. Student athlete and coaches’ locker rooms round out the first floor, along with a player’s lounge and team position group meeting rooms. The complex also includes the Isban Auditorium, a 150-seat, theater-style auditorium with football-player-sized seats and theater-quality audio-visual equipment, including a 30-foot screen. The building’s design offers spaces to celebrate Notre Dame’s rich athletic tradition, including entry display areas for memorabilia and the lofted Hall of Champions.
